Writing Center Resources for Faculty

In addition to peer tutoring services for students, the Writing Center offers a variety of programs to support faculty in their teaching of writing, as well as in their own scholarly pursuits.  A brief description of these programs is provided below.  Faculty members are invited to contact the Writing Center for additional information.

Informational Class Visits

Writing Center representatives are available to deliver 10-15 minute overviews of our policies, programs, and resources. These short presentations are delivered upon faculty request and provide students with everything they need to know about how the Writing Center can support them.

Skill Workshops for Students

Members of our staff can also deliver workshops that are tailor-made to address the needs of students in particular courses.  These workshops are particularly effective when topics are tied directly to an assignment.  Workshops may be delivered during class meetings or at another time that works well for students.

Teaching Tools

The Writing Center staff has compiled a variety of tools, including videos, tip sheets, and reference guides, to support faculty in their teaching of writing.  Some of these tools are discipline-specific, while others are designed for more general use across subject areas. To access these resources, visit our Teaching Tools page.

Writing Pedagogy Workshops

In collaboration with the English Department and the Center for Teaching Excellence, the Writing Center offers a series of workshops that focus on discrete aspects of writing instruction.  Topics include, but are not limited to, assignment design, evaluation/response techniques, and strategies to facilitate the writing process.  Each session typically lasts an hour and includes a complimentary lunch.

Faculty Writing Program

The Faculty Writing Program is an initiative created and maintained by the Writing Center and the Office of Sponsored Projects and Research Compliance (SPaRC). Through this program, the Writing Center offers a range of support for faculty writers. Summaries of our regularly scheduled programs and a form to request additional events or support can be found below. Additional questions regarding the Faculty Writing Program can be directed to Will Toner, Kaleb Beavers, and Dalila Alves. For additional faculty resources specific to grants and grant writing, please visit the SPaRC website.
