Pass/Fail Grade Option
Fall 2025 Deadline: November 11
Spring 2026 Deadline: March 18
All eligible students (first-semester freshmen are ineligible) who plan to take a course on a pass/fail basis must submit a Pass/Fail Grade Option Form (see link below) to the Student Success Center (Phillips Memorial Library) by 11:59 p.m. on the pass/fail deadline date.
Students who have studied abroad, the deadline for declaring a study-abroad semester course P/F is two weeks following the Registrar’s posting of the course grade to their official PC transcript.
Please note the following restrictions before making your request:
- You must have a Cumulative GPA of 2.00 or better from the previous semester to elect the P/F grade option.
- Pass/Fail grade option for freshmen begins with the second semester.
- Any course taken on a pass/fail basis must be selected from free electives as shown on the degree audit. Core curriculum, major, and minor courses are excluded from the pass/fail designation. If you elect pass/fail for a course that is on your degree audit as meeting a core, major, or minor requirement, that course shall be considered a free elective.
- Credits earned on a pass/fail basis will not be averaged in a student’s GPA; credits failed in a pass/fail course will be averaged as an “F” with 0.00 quality grade points.
- Only one course per semester (fall or spring) or term (winter or summer), with a maximum of four courses in total, may be taken on a pass/fail basis. (Courses that are offered only on a pass/fail basis [internship and research] do not contribute to the total of one per semester).
- There will be no retroactive change of a standard (letter grade) to a pass/fail course or reversal of the election of this P/F option.
