Academic Accommodations

Among its many other services, the Student Success Center provides reasonable academic accommodations for students with documented disabilities. Those who are new to PC, or who have never requested academic accommodations at the College, must begin the process by logging in to Accommodate to complete the accommodations application. A member of the Accessibility Services staff will contact your student within 48 business hours of receiving the application. Academic Advising Support

When your student has questions about course selection and their program of study, the first, best resource is their assigned academic advisor. However, professional advisors in the SSC can help with a wide array of advising questions, including those related to major/minor declaration, program planning, core requirements, course registration, pass/fail elections, double major/minor opportunities, transfer coursework outside of PC, summer/winter course enrollment, study abroad opportunities, and more. Students can book their own academic advising sessions by visiting the Academic Advising website. Assistance is also available on a walk-in basis.

Academic Coaching Support

Whether students are having difficulty in their classes or doing well but aiming to reach an even higher standard of excellence, academic coaching can support them in meeting their goals. Through an approach that is highly individualized, our professional coaches help students build on their strengths while developing effective strategies to overcome challenges. Students can book their own academic coaching sessions by visiting the Academic Skills website.

*Before you encourage your student to book an appointment, please remind them that academic coaching is most effective when it is ongoing and sustained; one or two sessions are rarely enough to address core issues.

English Language Learner (ELL) Support

The Student Success Center offers support to PC students who are non-native English speakers by helping them navigate academic and cultural challenges. Through one-on-one instruction with our ELL Specialist, students can focus on improvement in a wide array of areas – including, but not limited to, writing skills, oral communication proficiency, and vocabulary building. Subject-Area Tutoring

The Christie Family Tutoring Center (CFTC) provides individual and/or group tutoring in most subject areas, and at no additional cost for PC students. Whether your student is having difficulty with course concepts or finding success but aiming to improve mastery, our dedicated team of peer tutors is ready to help! All of our tutors have distinguished themselves through hard work, and all have been recommended by their professors. Writing Assistance

The Writing Center prides itself on being a place where all students — from first year to graduate level — can feel comfortable talking about their work, and our peer tutors are trained to help at any stage of the writing process. This includes help with other forms of composition, including oral and multimedia presentations. Whether your student is just getting a project started or putting the finishing touches on a potential masterpiece, staff in the Center are ready to help!
